Youth
Performing Arts Center
The
Youth Performing Arts Center Leadership Council for the Carmel Unified
School District retained John Thodos to develop a concept that would
allow for and anticipate the uncertainties of the program, a variable
budget and allow for the evolution of unknown future facilities.
The
design concept, that was developed and was accepted by the leadership
council, is based upon a major glass spine connecting distinct buildings
forms containing the, as of now, undefined functions.
The
flexibility of the scheme allows for theater facilities and class
rooms and workshops for the various arts, to be constructed in whole
or scaled down, if the budget dictated. The addition or removal of
any function does not destroy the idea of the whole.
